Creating a topic for your forum

When you create your forum, you'll need to add at least one topic about which site members can post messages. You can do this while you're creating your forum, or at a later time.

To add a topic while you're creating your forum, first finish configuring the forum settings on the Discussion Forum Settings screen. Then, click Save Settings & Add Topic. Also, in your forum settings, you can control which participant roles are permitted to create new topics. For more information about creating a forum, see Creating, editing, or deleting a discussion forum.

To add a topic later (i.e., after you've created and saved your forum), on the Message Center screen, to the right of your forum's title, click New Topic.

Either of the above methods takes you to the Topics Settings screen. To finish adding your topic, follow these steps:

  1. In the text field next to "Topic Title", type the title that you want displayed to participants on the Message Center screen.

  2. In the text field next to "Short Description", you may type a short description of the topic, which will be displayed to participants below the topic's title.

  3. In the text field next to "Description", you may type a lengthy, detailed description of your topic. To view this description, participants will have to click Read Full Description below the topic's title.

  4. To add an attachment, under "Attachments", click Add Attachment. The file selector screen will open.

  5. Under "Control Permissions", use the checkboxes to indicate which roles can execute each of the following functions:
