Posting and responding to messages

Using the Message Center tool, you can send private messages to other site participants, reply to private messages sent by other participants, post messages addressing a topic in one of the discussion forums, and post responses to the forum messages of other participants.

Sending a private message

Note: If you don't see the Private Messages area on the Message Center screen, it most likely means that your site leader has de-activated private messaging in the Message Center settings.

To compose and send a private message, follow these steps:

  1. From the Message Center screen, under "Private Messages Area", click Compose Message. You can also click Compose Private Message when you're viewing the contents in one of the private message folders. Either way, the Compose Private Message screen will open.

  2. Next to "To", select the individual(s) to whom you want to send the message. You can also choose to send your message to the entire class or to all instructors.

  3. Next to "Send", choose to send your message either As Private Message or To Recipients' Email Address(es).

  4. Next to "Subject", type the subject (i.e., title) of your message.

  5. Under "Message", use the WYSIWYG editor to compose your message.

  6. Under "Attachments", click Add Attachment to attach a file to your message.

Replying to a private message

To compose and post a response to a private message sent to you, follow these steps:

  1. Under "Private Messages", click Received to view the messages you've received.

  2. Find and click the message to which you're replying.

  3. Click Reply to Message.

  4. In the text field next to "Subject", give your reply a title.

  5. In the text field under "Message", use the WYSIWYG editor to compose your reply.

  6. Under "Attachments", click Add Attachments to attach a file to your reply.

Sending a discussion forum message

To compose and send a message that addresses a discussion forum topic, follow these steps:

  1. From the Message Center screen, under "Discussion Forums", click the title of the topic for which you'd like to post a message.

  2. Click Compose Message. The Compose Discussion Forum Message screen will open.

  3. Next to "Title", type the subject (i.e., title) of your message.

  4. Under "Message", use the WYSIWYG editor to compose your message.

  5. Under "Attachments" click Add Attachment to attach a file to your message.

Responding to another participant's discussion forum message

Note: Depending on your role within the site, and how the forum creator configured permissions, you may or may not be able to post a response to another participant's message.

To compose and post a response to another participant's message, follow these steps:

  1. Under "Discussion Forums", click the title of the desired topic, and then find and click the desired message.

  2. Click Reply to Message.

  3. In the text field next to "Reply Title", give your reply a title.

  4. In the text field under "Message", type your reply.

  5. Under "Attachments", click Add Attachment to attach a file to your reply.
